Aston Martin DBS
Aston Martin introduced the DBS in 2008, it packed a little less power than its predecessor the Vanquish S, as there was just 510bhp on tap. It's a far better car to drive though, and 194mph is enough for most owners
Bentley Brooklands
Bentley was simply claiming that the power output of its cars was 'adequate', it really entered into the spirit of things with the Brooklands, crowing proudly about its 530bhp V8
Nissan R390
This is Nissan's forgotten GT1 racer, and for the car to be homologated at least road-going edition had to be built. It looks as though just the one 539bhp road car was made; the whole venture was a disaster from start to finish
Ford GT
GT packed a 550bhp powerplant to give a 205mph top speed.
Lexus LFA
If you had to nominate a stand-out feature of any Lexus built before the LFA, it would probably be the deathly dull driving experience. But this 552bhp hypercar changed all that, with 500 copies being shifted at £336,000 apiece.
Callaway C16
The Corvette C6 is quite a looker, but it's nothing compared with the C16 that results from the attentions of Callaway. Offered in coupé, convertible or speedster variants, each has a 616bhp supercharged V8 to give 216mph.
Porsche Carrera GT
This is arguably the most sophisticated Porsche ever to see production - until the 918 Spyder appears of course. With a mid-mounted 5.7-litre V10 providing a useful 612bhp, the Carrera GT could notch up a handy 205mph.
Bentley continental supersport
Even the standard Continental GT could claim 552bhp, while the slightly more souped-up Speed edition could lay claim to a 602bhp powerplant. But both of those paled into insignificance here, as there was 621bhp on offer.
Maserati mc12
This is what happens when you give Maserati a Ferrari Enzo to play with - it produces a car that's slower, less powerful yet more costly. Still, with 622bhp and a 205mph top speed, it's probably just about fast enough for most.
Mercedes slr mclaren
Sure it was massively fast, but the SLR McLaren was also not especially engaging to drive. Clinically efficient in true Mercedes style, the company somehow produced a 626bhp supercar that wasn't that much fun to drive.
Ferrari Enzo
It was unofficially known as the F60, as this was Ferrari's 60th birthday present to itself - although it came a few years early. It was a pretty decent present though, with its 650bhp mid-mounted V12 and 217mph top speed.
Bugatti Veyron
Don't let anyone tell you this is the world's fastest production car, as it isn't. Read on and you'll find out what beats it, but even though this no longer takes gold, we'd settle for one with its paltry 987bhp quad-turbo W16 engine.
Jaguar XKR
The original Jaguar XKR produced a paltry 370bhp, which makes you wonder why they even bothered. That figure has steadily climbed over the years, with the latest 5-litre model now producing a much more fun 510bhp.
Volkswagen W12
There were a lot of people who really hoped that Volkswagen would build this car, but with the Veyron, R8 and numerous Lamborghinis on the way, the last thing the VW Group needed was a 590bhp monster with VW badges.
