Dhookudu review: Mahesh Babu hits screen with a bang, Movie Review, Trailer, Collections, Pictures.
Genre: Comedy | Action
Directed by: Srinu Vaitla
Movie Cast: Mahesh Babu, Samanta, Prakash Raj, Brahmanandam, Nasser, Sonu Sood
After few flops like Athidi and Khaleja, star Mahesh Babu is trying to resurrect himself in a funny role of a trigger-happy cop and who sets out to nab the gang of an overseas don, played by Sonu Sood.
His pursuit takes him to Istanbul where he meets a pretty girl (Samanta) and after a few encounters, they fall in love. Mahesh Babu, who usually prefers to 'underplay' his characters, this time, goes overboard to keep his fans happy.
The plot of the movie is loosely inspired by German flick Goodbye Lenin that is saga of a mother who is made to believe that East Germany is still under Communist regime, even after the fall of the German Wall.
In this case, Mahesh Babu's father, played by Prakash Raj, goes into a coma but when he comes out of it, on the advice of doctors, the doting son recreates a 'set-up' - which feels contrived and unrealistic - to keep his father healthy with support of his family and friends. The flick is no match to the original.
Although, it is a tale of a honest cop who is on the trail of a dreaded don, director Sinu Vaitla relies on a band of comedians like Brahmanandam and M.S. Narayana to sustain audience interests, before his protagonist accomplishes his mission.
The slapstick comedy goes overboard at times and even Samanta is wasted in a clichéd glam prop role and has nothing much to do, except to match dancing steps with Mahesh, However, Brahmanandam and M.S. Narayana steal the show.
Audiences have to leave behind their thinking caps at home to enjoy this comic-caper since the screenplay has few gaping holes and is repetitive as well.
At home, the first day collection itself was around Rs 7-8 Cr which is whopping and crossed the first day collection of ‘Magadheera’. Worldwide collection are above 10Cr. Even though Oosaravelli gets hit talk, it can lift the advantage of vacations just for 4 days. To beat Rs 7-8 Cr home collections and 10-11Cr world wide collections is not a joke. But Dookudu is enjoying the advantage from release date Sep 23rd to Oct 10th.
