Mumbai: Three blasts rocked Mumbai today during the evening rush hour. The three blasts took place in West Dadar, Opera House and Zaveri Bazaar. Police sources confirm that eight people have been killed, while over 70 have been injured in the three blasts. The blasts took place around 7pm.
The Home Ministry has confirmed that three serial blasts took place in Mumbai and has put the NSG team on standby. Also, the government has sounded high alert in New Delhi following the blast in Mumbai.
The Home Secretary is now talking to Maharashtra DGP. The fire has been brought under control in Zaveri Bazaar, where four people have been reportedly killed, an eyewitness told a TV news channel. The casualty numbers have not been confirmed officially.
The blast at Dadar took place at a bus stop at a meter box, while nearly 100 people have been reportedly injured in the blast at the Opera House. Around 10-12 people have been seriously injured in the Zaveri Bazaar blast, according to TV news channels.
Massive traffic jams are being reported from Opera House in Chowpatty. Cellphones too are being jammed. Maharashtra Anti-Terrorist Squad has rushed a team to the affected areas. The police are trying to evacuate the Opera House and have cordoned off the area.
Victims from Zaveri Bazaar and Opera House are being taken to the JJ Hospital. The Mumbai police said that improvised explosive devices have been used.
"It seems like a terrorist attack," said Home Ministry sources. NIA teams asked to join investigations in Mumbai blasts, added the sources.
