Maruti Suzuki announced the launch of its new Maruti Wagon R 2010 which is revamped model of its Wagon R, the second largest selling car by Maruti Suzuki after Alto. The new Wagon R has more than just a face lift from its predecessors both in terms of exterior, interior and its heart.
Take a closer look at the improvements the company offers in the new Maruti Wagon R which is available in three variants; LX, LXi and VXi. The ‘Blue Eyed Boy’; the name given to new Maruti Wagon R sports a latest feature of an elegant blue eyed parking indicator in the headlamp cluster, hence got its name.
The new Maruti Wagon R is based on the same platform as its present Wagon R model but an array of much improved features makes it a new generation car. The heart of new Wagon by Maruti Suzuki has a Bharat Stage IV complaint KB series engine which is the same engine that powers the Maruti A- Star.
The old Wagon R is powered by 1061 cc engine capable of developing 64PS of maximum power and 84 Nm of max torque. Whereas the new Wagon R 2010 has an engine capable of developing 67 PS of max power at 6200 rpm and 90 Nm of max torque at 3500 rpm. A Smart Distributor Less Ignition feature and a high pressure semi-return fuel system are also featured in the new engine.
WagonR has always been one of the highest-selling models for Maruti Suzuki. In March 2010 the sales numbers for the existing Wagon R were a few units above 11,000. Since its launch the WagonR has found 8.8 lakh homes in India and 55,00,000 worldwide.
The WagonR was first introduced in India in 2001 and took some time to find favour among buyers due to its non-conventional design for that time. The car was at time powered by a 1061cc engine producing 64bhp. In 2006 Maruti gave the car a facelift including a new nose job. In the same year Maruti also launched the Wagon R Duo which could run on LPG apart from petrol.
The company has invested Rs 290 crore in upgrading the car. Introduction of other variants in different fuel modes will be decided depending upon response from the customers. The company will at first sell the car in the domestic market and later introduce it in the neighbouring nations.

- New Maruti 2010 Wagon R VXi with ABS – Rs 4.12 lakh
